This Psalm is a beautiful reminder that worship is not meant to be cold, forced, or routine. Worship should be part of our daily lives. God invites His people to come before Him with joy, thanksgiving, and praise. The psalmist does not say to come quietly burdened by fear, but to “serve the Lord with gladness.” With great Joy we should go about our day, so that the world sees something different in us.
Life can weigh heavily on us. Responsibilities, disappointments, and worries often steal our joy. Yet Psalm 100 calls us to remember who God is. “It is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves.” We belong to Him. We are His Sons and Daughters. We are His people, cared for like sheep under the watchful eye of a loving Shepherd.
This is silly, however, I sat at my graduation ceremony staring at the six steps I would have to go up and down to receive my diploma. Yes, in the moment of celebration, anxiety captured my heart, thinking I was possibly going to trip and fall in front of hundreds of people. It was not until I got to the bottom of the platform that my anxiety melted away. He was there with me and provided the confidence to walk across. A little think, I know. However, my God is there for us in the little and big events of life.
The psalm closes with a powerful truth: “For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.” God’s goodness does not change with circumstances. He is aware of our circumstances. His mercy does not run out. His truth does not fade with time. He is present in all our troubles and trials. Aren’t you glad He is right beside us all the way? His arms are around you, holding you close.
Today, take a moment to thank God simply for who He is. Praise Him not only for what He has done, but because He is worthy of worship.
