Have you ever faced a battle that felt bigger than you?
Maybe you’re facing one right now. It could be a family situation, a financial struggle, a difficult relationship, a health concern, or simply a season of life that has left you feeling tired and overwhelmed.
Over the years, I’ve learned that some battles cannot be won in our own strength. That’s where the name Jehovah Nissibecomes so meaningful. It means, “The LORD is my banner.”
We first see this name in Exodus 17. Israel was fighting the Amalekites, and Moses stood on the mountain with his hands raised. As long as his hands were raised, Israel prevailed. When he became tired, Aaron and Hur came alongside him and held up his hands until the battle was won.
Afterward, Moses built an altar and called it Jehovah Nissi (Exodus 17:15).
I love that picture. The Israelites fought, but God gave the victory. Moses needed Aaron and Hur, and together they depended upon God.
Sometimes we forget that.
We try to fight our battles alone. We depend on our strength, experience, resources, or plans. But Scripture reminds us, “Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God” (Psalm 20:7).
Jehovah Nissi reminds me that I don’t have to face every battle alone.
The LORD is my banner. He is my strength. He is my victory.
So whatever battle you’re facing today, look up. Remember His name. And remember that the battle ultimately belongs to Him.
