When Father’s Day Hurts

For many, Father’s Day is filled with smiles, family gatherings, and happy memories. But for others, this day can carry a quiet ache.

Some are missing fathers who have gone home to be with the Lord—whether the loss came years ago or only recently. Some fathers are separated or estranged from their children and long for restored relationships. Others carry painful memories or strained relationships with their dads. What is a joyful celebration for some can be a difficult reminder for others.

If Father’s Day is hard for you, know that you are not alone.

One of the beautiful truths of Scripture is that we have a Heavenly Father whose love never changes. Earthly fathers, even the best of them, are imperfect. Relationships may disappoint, distance may separate, and death may take away those we love. But our Heavenly Father remains faithful.

David wrote, “When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up” (Psalm 27:10, KJV). God is “the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort” (2 Corinthians 1:3). He draws near to the brokenhearted, knows every sorrow, and cares for His children with perfect love.

Perhaps this Father’s Day brings tears instead of celebration. If so, rest in the comforting arms of your Heavenly Father. He sees you, He knows your heart, and He promises never to leave nor forsake His own.

And that is a reason for hope—even on the hardest days.

Happy Father’s Day to all. And may the love and comfort of our Heavenly Father sustain every heart today.
